| When Mad Dog
Racing packed their cars and equipment back into the team
transporters on a cold Canadian afternoon, it was with relief,
and a smile on their faces.
Completion of race one of the two
race format saw their opponents, Devil Racing Team, with a 2
point advantage from better track position. "I still think my
problems at turn one, on lap one, cost us a win today",
stated team captain Quasi, after having locked a brake into the
first turn of the round, causing him to spear left across the
path of oncoming traffic, and into the sand. "If it hadn't
been for that time getting out of the sand I believe I would
have been in the thick of it, fighting for position and team
points....but I think my fight back to bring it home in fifth
showed that. Mind you, I'm not beating myself up over it, it
just would have been nice not to screw up like that".
DRT had the better of
finishing position in the first heat, aided by last minute
substitute 'Aceattack', who put in his usual top notch
performance to take first-across-the-line honours, followed
through by DLegend (MDR), JD (DRT), and Triggerfish (MDR)
completing the top four spots.
This round also saw the debut
for previously unavailable team member Yap, for MDR, who
struggled from lack of practice, but held his own in the field.
Race 2 saw a start from the
MDR boys that could be described as near perfect, with DLegend,
Triggerfish, and Quasi, scorching off the grid to lead 1-2-3
through the first turn. This continued through the first 3 laps,
as Quasi fought to hold off Aceattack and JD of DRT, until
running wide, and giving an opportunity for the DRT duo to slip
through. That close battle, however, gave DLegend and
Triggerfish the time they needed to put a healthy gap on the
rest of the field, until late in the second heat when Aceattack
managed to catch and pass Triggerfish for second spot, but time
was on DLegends side and he held a huge gap back to Aceattack
until taking the chequered flag for the race win.
Quasi and Yap, meanwhile, were
busy back in the field, with Quasi gaining a spot on Cobra, of
DRT, who had managed to creep ahead of him earlier, to bring it
home again in fifth place. Yap continued to hassle Cobra, but
couldn't quite get past before the final lap.
With honours in race two, MDR
managed to hold DRT to a draw on points, for the round. |
